The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from april until october. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Look for a dirt pull out on the right after the bridge;
Artist bluff trail map. The trail is well marked with red painted squares on the trees. Much of it is quite moderate and it is relatively short (1.5 miles). This is a short spur that leads directly from the trail to the sheer cliffs of artists bluff at also provides spectacular views.
It was very challenging for us as the trail was a steep ascent and very rocky. After rejoining the main trail, we sped up. This allows a 1.6 mi.
It is varied but easy and we enjoyed ourselves as the trail rolled along. A slight descent follows, then a short climb over a knob, and finally the trail descends to the bald mountain spur, 0.4 miles from artist's bluff. Alltrails sort newest first oldest first.
Artists point is the wooded island at the end of the spit of land that forms the natural harbor of grand marais. It then continues upward and onward to artist's bluff spur. From the parking head up a clearly marked and well overuse old carriage road a moderate grade trail toward the col between bald mountain and artist bluff.
As the trail started to descend rockily, i wondered if i'd missed what had been described as an unnamed spur to artist bluff. Head left towards bald mountain for about 50 yards. Artist’s bluff is one of the most popular short and easy hikes in nh.
350 feet information goes by ascending bald mountain first. The trail to artists point and the lighthouse breakwater is behind the coast guard station. However, the younger folks passed us by with ease.
Loop over both peaks, with a link between the trailheads via the loop trail or a road walk on nh 18. After passing artist's bluff the trail descends pretty. Do not park at trail head (no parking signs).
Artist bluff trail goes off to the right. The trail continues climbing steeply to the top of the hill on which artist's bluff is located. We are seniors and it took us an hour to get to the bluff.
The footing on the trail is good and the forest is beautiful. After.25 mile, a short, steep path diverges left for.1 mile to the open summit of bald mountain. Artist’s bluff is 2,368 ft high and so some parts are indeed moderately to strenuously uphill.
On your left you will see a huge boulder. Artist bluff is even an easier class 1 trail from the parking lot and receives usually double the amount of people bald mtn. There are some more ups and downs until it leads to the artist's bluff spur which is also to the left.
Park at echo lake beach or the parking for echo crag. Both of these spurs are short and offer very rewarding views. The trail includes some moderate inclines for the first two thirds of the route.
It only requires a 1.5 mile loop hike to do both of the viewing areas, leaving plenty of time to do many of the other attractions in the area. Located in franconia notch, this out and back or loop hike features stunning views of the notch, echo lake, cannon mountain, and the surrounding peaks. The 1.5 mile loop begins in the parking area across route 18 from the peabody base area.
Artist point and breakwater lighthouse. We fortunately had hiking sticks. Shortly after beginning on the trail it comes to a junction with the bald mountain spur.
The trail to the left goes to the summit of bald mountain, and the trail to the left goes to artist bluff and then back to the trailhead. Keep right at the first fork in the trail. The trail starts here but please park at echo lake beach parking lot 100 yards ahead. The loop then returns to the main trail.
After returning to the trail from the bluffs, the trail descends very. Starting from the parking area for echo lake beach, a sign across the road marks the start of the The climb up bald mountain is fairly steep and rocky in many parts, but the views from the top are the best of the entire hike.
Artist bluff trail is a 1.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near franconia, new hampshire that features a lake and is rated as moderate. Walk to the left side of it and you will notice the bolts. This trail is a perfect quick family trek.
Alltrails/sarah hines the 1.5 mile loop trail quickly rewards you with absolutely stunning views, the kind you normally need to hike much farther for. There is a limited view of cannon mountain here. In addition, the majority of the hike is far enough from the road to feel and sound fully wild but still easy to get.
Nestled in franconia notch state park you'll find a small parking lot and trailhead for artist's bluff. Thankfully, there was an arrow on a boulder indicating the way. The lighthouse is at the end of the breakwater.
