Artist Loft Pouring Medium Ratio

Don’t let the word “flow” confuse you, because you still need to add pouring medium and/or water to it, but it mixes up easily. Fluid art techniques allow me to.

It makes the acrylic very smooth, i'm using the medium & water together to thin my paint and the medium makes it dry slower, which is great because when i've added more water than medium my paint has dried faster. I recently tried a pour using liquitex pouring medium mixed with liquitex basics paint with a 3 to 1 ratio. Next, if you are using craft paints (folkart, craftsmart) mix the same amount of paint and pouring medium (50:50 or 1:1 ratio). 2/3 floetrol to 1/3 paint.

The results and the flow of the paint were far too fluid. So today i'm trying out a new pouring medium. Craft paint is generally a cheaper version of acrylic paint that is not very pigmented at all.

One part acrylic paint to five parts artist loft medium so already right there. If you’re using a thinner craft paint like nicole’s acrylics, you will need less medium to get to the consistency you’d like. Many artist use water as a medium to thin paint but too much water can dilute the binders in the paint and cause the paint to lift off your canvas.

Artist loft flow acrylic is a good “practice” paint for acrylic pouring experiments. 1 part artist's loft™ acrylic paint to 5 parts. 24”x48” or 36”x48” 1.5 qt 16 oz.

Acrylic mediums have the same acrylic base as your paint so lifting is less likely to happen. And just keep in mind that the ratio of paint to pouring medium ratio will be different for every brand of paint you use. The higher quality paints have more and better pigments so you can mix in more pouring medium.

All were mixed with liquitex pouring medium in a ratio of 2 parts pouring medium to 1 part paint. So, it is a good idea, especially if you are doing a bigger piece, to have a good idea of how much paint you are going to need. In my next attempt to use liquitex as my pouring medium i will definitely be starting with at 2 to 1 ratio instead.

Use 4 times more white than the other colors.
